WHAT THE BILL DID: The final vetoed version would prohibit the use of any artificial intelligence or learning software in any machines or devices used for Arizona elections, specifies that artificial intelligence or learning software may not be used for the processing of early ballots or the verification of a voter's affidavit by an election board, and asserts the electronic vote adjudication feature may not include any artificial intelligence or learning software.

WHY IT MATTERED: The practical reason for this bill was to set a clear legal boundary for ballot processing instead of leaving the conduct unaddressed. It would prohibit the use of any artificial intelligence or learning software in any machines or devices used for Arizona elections, and would also specifies that artificial intelligence or learning software may not be used for the processing of early ballots or the verification of a voter's affidavit by an election board, rather than leave the current rule unchanged.
