  • Adams v. Senate (2021) — Race & sex discrimination verdict. As Senate minority leader, Hobbs helped fire Black policy adviser Talonya Adams after Adams complained she was paid less than white male colleagues. Two federal juries found race and sex discrimination/retaliation. Adams later called Hobbs a racist by the Oxford dictionary definition and demanded she resign.
  • CROWN Act EO (2023) — Hair discrimination signing. Hobbs invited advocacy groups to her CROWN Act signing — and Rachel Dolezal (now Nkechi Diallo), the white woman who famously pretended to be Black, showed up with the invited crowd.
  • Dem Primary (2022) — Refused to debate Marco Lopez. Hobbs skipped the televised Democratic primary debate against Latino former Nogales Mayor Marco Lopez — leaving him alone on the PBS stage.
  • SB 1305 (2023) — Race; ethnicity; prohibited instruction. Vetoed the bill banning classroom instruction that an individual is inherently racist/oppressive by race, or that merit and hard work are racist constructs.
  • SB 1694 (2025) — Higher education; withholding state monies. Vetoed cutting state funds to universities and community colleges pushing DEI race ideology courses.
