SB1330
on-site ballot tabulation; containers
BLAME HOBBS!
THE CONTEXT: Laws 2022, Ch. 271, 4 establishes procedures and requirements for the on-site tabulation of voted early ballots.
WHAT THE BILL DID: The final vetoed version would replaces the term drop box with ballot box for voting locations that allow for the on-site tabulation of ballots and change the term drop box to container for boxes where empty ballot affidavit envelopes are deposited during the on-site tabulation process.
WHY IT MATTERED: The practical reason for this bill was to give Arizonans and public officials a defined option for on-site ballot tabulation under state law. It would replaces the term drop box with ballot box for voting locations that allow for the on-site tabulation of ballots, and would also change the term drop box to container for boxes where empty ballot affidavit envelopes are deposited during the on-site tabulation process, rather than leave the current rule unchanged.
