HB2063

parental notification; school immunization exemptions

BLAME HOBBS!

EducationFamily

THE CONTEXT: The Arizona Department of Health Services (DHS) director must adopt rules prescribing the required immunizations for school attendance, as well as standards for documentary proof of immunization or immunity. Unless exempted from immunization requirements, a student may not attend a public, private or parochial school that offers instruction at any level or grade through the 12th grade without submitting documentary proof to the school administrator.

WHAT THE BILL DID: The final vetoed version would add that any communication to a parent, guardian or person in loco parentis regarding school immunization requirements must include information about school immunization exemptions.

WHY IT MATTERED: The practical reason for this bill was to give the people who rely on the rule clearer information and a defined reporting process. It would add that any communication to a parent, guardian or person in loco parentis regarding school immunization requirements must include information about school immunization exemptions, rather than leave the current rule unchanged.
