THE CONTEXT: ADOT must register motor vehicles and aircraft, license drivers, collect revenues, enforce motor vehicle and aviation statutes and perform related functions, among other duties. To carry out responsibilities, ADOT is organized into the following divisions: 1) Motor vehicle; 2) Transportation planning; 3) Highways; 4) Aeronautics; 5) Public transit; and 6) Administrative services ( A.

WHAT THE BILL DID: The final vetoed version would tasks ADOT with reporting, by July 31 of each year, to JLBC on the progress in improving MVD wait times and vehicle registration renewal by mail turnaround times and stipulate the report must be in a format similar to the reports ADOT submitted to JLBC before the effective date.

WHY IT MATTERED: The practical reason for this bill was to make the government process for transportation more definite and accountable. It would tasks ADOT with reporting, by July 31 of each year, to JLBC on the progress in improving MVD wait times and vehicle registration renewal by mail turnaround times, and would also stipulate the report must be in a format similar to the reports ADOT submitted to JLBC before the effective date, rather than leave the current rule unchanged.
