THE CONTEXT: Established in 1915, ASLD currently manages approximately 9. 2 million acres of state trust lands.

WHAT THE BILL DID: The final vetoed version would require the Geologist to collaborate with ASLD to fulfill the duties of the Division and advise ASLD on request, allow the Geologist to engage the services of employees of the Division, and expand the Geologist's access to resources to include ASLD data.

WHY IT MATTERED: The practical reason for this bill was to turn the Legislature's standard for arizona geological survey into an enforceable rule. It would require the Geologist to collaborate with ASLD to fulfill the duties of the Division and advise ASLD on request, and would also allow the Geologist to engage the services of employees of the Division, rather than leave the current rule unchanged.
