THE CONTEXT: Established in 1915, the ASLD manages more than 9 million acres of State Trust lands. These lands are held in trust and are managed for the sole purpose of generating revenue for the 13 beneficiaries.

WHAT THE BILL DID: of generating revenue for the 13 beneficiaries. Additionally, the ASLD administers laws related to lands owned by, belonging to and under control of the state, which includes both trust land and sovereign land.

WHY IT MATTERED: The practical reason for this bill was to turn the Legislature's standard for cap water into an enforceable rule. It would require the ASLD initiate a public stakeholder process to adopt a procedure for allocating CAP water to parcels of State Trust land that may be sold or leased, rather than leave the current rule unchanged.
