THE CONTEXT: Currently for override elections the county school superintendent is required to include information regarding the tax rate associated with the proposed capital improvements and the estimated cost for owners of single family homes valued at $80,000 in an informational pamphlet which would be distributed to qualified electors within the schools district ( A. WHAT THE BILL DID: The final vetoed version would change the home value used for informational pamphlets regarding override elections from $80,000 to $100,000 and $400,000, add the home value $400,000 for class B bond election informational pamphlets, and amends truth in taxation notices, to use the home values of $100,000 and $400,000. (Sec. 3,.
WHY IT MATTERED: The practical reason for this bill was to make a concrete adjustment to the existing rule for truth in taxation. It would change the home value used for informational pamphlets regarding override elections from $80,000 to $100,000 and $400,000, and would also add the home value $400,000 for class B bond election informational pamphlets, rather than leave the current rule unchanged.
